Jessica’s story.
“If you’re looking to be transformed and renewed, this is the place to be.” Jessica De La Cruz
Jessica’s story
I am 38 years old and I have not stopped dreaming. Outside of making sure my family is loved, happy, and financially taken care of, I dream of how I can change the lives of others. At Ombudsman I get to experience that every time I watch a student walk across the stage. I am blessed every time I write a letter of recommendation. I am happy every time I get to feed another hungry student. I am honored every time I get to hire a graduate intern that sits under my watch. I get to see them flourish and become family. Best of all, I get to see my students write another story as they transition from an alternative school into the world to become better members of society. I know that I won’t be able to help every single student that walks through Ombudsman Charter Northwest, but I can tell you that every day that I dedicate my time and life to Charter Northwest I will change the life of at least one individual. With that being said, my dreams are to help even more young adults. I also hope to have an organization that supports battered women and children. I hope to coach, teach, and mentor others that have similar passions to bring healing to their hurt. I want them to know that I know how they feel/felt, but that there is so much more in life. I once thought that my life had no value and I was willing to lose it, but Christ has brought me out of the darkness and has shown me the light.
“Jessica’s generosity and selflessness are admirable. It is easy to be the teacher I strive to be with her acceptance and belief in me.”
“Jessica and I have worked together for almost 4 years now and I want to emphasize the word together. She is our Principal, our leader and treats us all with respect, as equals. As a Principal she leads by example, plays to our strengths and allows for growth. There have been instances under pressure where she flourished and handled the situation with grace.”

Jessica’s story touched us all at the Living A Better Story inaugural retreat in March, 2021. We’re blessed to know Jessica, we’re blessed by her story, and we continue to pray as a group that she can continue to serve these teenagers in need. Every day, Jessica is impacting these teens’ lives, literally as the last line of hope in their lives.
